Five Highlights of the 2024 Canyon

The Canyon midsize pickup was completely redesigned for the 2023 model year and added new trim levels for 2024. As full-size trucks have grown, there is more space for midsize trucks, and the whole category has been gaining attention. Ewing Buick GMC wants you to know that the Canyon is ready to compete for your consideration with, but not limited to, the following five highlights.
Upscale Interior
Because you spend most of your time inside the truck, GMC gave the Canyon a class-leading dashboard design with an upscale, sensible, and easy-to-use horizontal layout. The 11.3-inch center touchscreen isn’t just stuck on the dash but fully integrated with the instrument cluster binnacle. It is also on the same horizontal plane as the driver information center so that you can scan both quickly. The two banks of physical controls are attractive and give a firm, positive feel and click of validation when engaged.
Brushed chrome trim defines each important section of the dash and graces the stylish 4-spoke steering wheel. Some grades can raise the aesthetic appeal even further with a two-tone interior color finish. The dash looks luxurious even before you get to the Denali trim, which steps things up further with details like laser-etched wood and quilted padded accents.
Effective Technology
The 11.3-inch touchscreen is powered by the Google Built-in operating system, which is quick to respond and easy to use. The system comes with the popular Google Maps Navigation app. Google Assistant allows you to voice commands using common English phrases. Simply precede the command with “Hey Google!” and ask it to change the temperature, find a specific piece of music, or any number of vehicle functions. Other apps from the Google Play Store are yours to download. If you also choose to use your smartphone’s vehicle interface system instead, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity is standard on all models. No longer will you leave your phone in the truck because you forgot to disconnect it before leaving.
Additional technology comes in the form of several standard safety and driver assist features such as:
- Forward Collision Alert
- Following Distance Indicator
- Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
- Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking
Impressive Power
When it first came out in 2004, the Canyon’s base engine produced 175 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. Twenty years later, the 2.7-liter inline-4 engine that powers the entire 2024 Canyon model line produces 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. Not only is it far more powerful than the original Canyon, but it is also noticeably more potent than the previous design’s V6. For all models, the engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission that keeps the engine running at the right revs for all occasions. The Elevation has a choice of rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, while all other trims have four-wheel drive as standard.
Quality Ride and Handling
The Canyon’s suspension tuning results in a surprisingly comfortable and quiet ride on the highway, even as it offers a good sense of control when the road gets twisty. The Canyon’s chassis gives a sense of confidence and is reasonably quiet, even with the all-terrain tires of the AT4 and AT4X models. The brakes, featuring Duralife rotors, are designed to provide quiet operation with little vibration.
Confidence Inspiring
The Canyon provides excellent visibility from the driver’s seat. The lifted AT4 and AT4X models offer a commanding view and even sit higher than the standard Sierra 1500. Standard LED projector headlamps maintain that confidence after sunset.
As a bonus, the Canyon looks really good in any trim level. With more capability and amenities, the Canyon makes an excellent case for going midsize for your next pickup.
