How Far Can You Go in a Duramax-Powered GMC Yukon?
Texans love to drive longer distances. While we rack up the miles, we want to be comfortable. Not just comfort for four people. Some families can fill up a vehicle and need the space offered in the 2025 and 2026 GMC Yukon, which can seat up to seven or eight people, depending on trim and configuration.
Car and Driver recently tested a 2025 Yukon AT4 Ultimate with the Duramax 3.0-liter turbocharged in-line six-cylinder diesel engine. It combines off-road prowess with the space you want for your family and some extra luxuries that make things more comfortable for everyone.
The 2025 Yukon AT4 Ultimate adds a panoramic power sunroof, retractable running boards, the Advanced Technology package, the Premium Capability package with Active Response 4WD, massaging front seats with additional power adjustability, power-release second-row bucket seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Super Cruise, and the Max trailering package. That enables the Yukon AT4 Ultimate to tow up to 8,400 pounds.

What draws consumers to the 2025 Yukon AT4 Ultimate is its spacious interior. Yukon models offer up to 122.8 cubic feet of cargo space with the second and third row seats folded. The space behind the third row is generous, with up to 25.5 cubic feet – good enough for sports bags or camping gear. You can also get the AT4 Ultimate trim in the Yukon XL model. That offers you more cargo space, ranging from 41.5 cubic feet behind the third row to 144.5 cubic feet with all seats down.
The Duramax engine also puts down 495 pound-feet of torque. Combined with a 10-speed automatic transmission, you can add efficiency to the 2025 Yukon AT4 Ultimate’s package. As Car and Driver explains, “The diesel’s riposte is sensational endurance: 22 mpg combined, according to the EPA. In our 75-mph highway fuel-economy testing, the diesel [earned] 27 mpg. With a full 24-gallon tank, the diesel would be 640-plus miles down the highway when the juice dried up. That’s ample time saved over the life of the vehicle, on top of the money saved from the moment of purchase, since at the time of writing,”
They did note the “fine body control” of the 2025 Yukon AT4 Ultimate itself. A strong body-on-frame construction ensures that you will not feel uncomfortable on any surface. This goes beyond suspension, axles, and brakes. It simply comes down to overall body rigidity built into each 2025 Yukon.
In conclusion, Car and Driver said that “the Yukon sets itself apart, and the diesel is our favorite engine.”
