How Much Can The GMC Acadia Tow?
For the 2024 model year, GMC has brought out an all-new Acadia from the ground up. This means the newer, better Acadia was built to give customers more of what was already great about the previous Acadia. A new engine, better technology and safety features, overall larger inside and out, and a new style brings the crossover more in line with the updated Yukon and Sierra models.
Trim Levels
The 2024 GMC Acadia is available in three different trim levels, including the Base Elevation, AT4, and Denali. The Elevation and Denali trims are standard with front-wheel drive but can be optioned with all-wheel drive, while the AT4 is AWD-only.

All-New Engine & Exclusive Features
The 2023 Acadia can be optioned with either a turbocharged 4-cylinder or a V6, depending on the trim level. For 2024, all Acadia models get a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque while being paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, far exceeding the previous model’s performance. When choosing the Acadia AT4, buyers will get an exclusive off-road-capable Active Torque Control AWD system to complement the all-conditions and terrain usability of the AT4.
New Towing Capacity
The previous generation GMC Acadia from 2020 to 2023 could tow either 1,000 lbs or as much as 4,000 lbs when equipped with a trailering package. However, with the upgraded engine, suspension, and size comes extra towing capacity. The base FWD and AWD Acadia Elevation can tow up to 1,500 lbs when properly equipped. Adding the Trailering Equipment Package, or getting a trim that has that as a standard feature, allows the Acadia to tow as much as 5,000 lbs. Don’t forget to always make sure to load your trailer correctly.

GMC Towing Recommendations
While the new Acadia is able to tow boats, jet skis, and even a horse quite easily, GMC recommends not towing anything for the first 500 miles of ownership of a 2024 Acadia. You should also change your engine oil before towing, and try not to go over 50 mph for the first 500 miles of towing to let the vehicle break-in properly during the first few times towing.

Important Details
GMC also advises certain safety features should be deactivated, such as Park Assist, Reverse Automatic Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, and Lane Change Alert. Unless your Acadia is equipped with the extra trailering functionality, Adaptive Cruise Control should also be turned off.
GM Super Cruise
The all-new Acadia can also be optioned with GM Super Cruise for the first time. If you are using an aftermarket trailer brake controller, GMC advises you to turn Super Cruise off before using the brake controller. Also, you should not use automatic lane change with Super Cruise when towing.

Base Price & Cargo Space
The 2024 GMC Acadia is at Ewing Buick GMC with a base MSRP of $43,995. The new Acadia also has 80% more cargo space behind the 3rd row than before, with 23 cu.ft. Folding the 3rd row down will give buyers 57.3 cu.ft., and folding the 2nd row opens the vehicle up to have 97.5 cu.ft. of total cargo capacity.
