Why You Should Buy a GMC Terrain Over a RAV4 or CR-V

July 5th, 2025 by

In a very competitive segment, you have plenty of choices. Each one wants to carry you and your family with efficiency, ample space, and practicality—all at an affordable price. One such choice is the new 2025 GMC Terrain. The newest version offers more standard equipment, including expanded driver assistance technology and a larger and more engaging infotainment system.

However, this segment also includes the two best-selling SUVs in America—the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4. How does the GMC Terrain stack up against these segment leaders? The Top Speed website made its case as to why you should consider a Terrain.

For starters, the editors said that the Terrain drives better and handles better” than most of its competitors. The reviewer remarked, “The more I drove the Terrain the more I appreciated the quick steering and stable cornering…weight the suspension through a corner and this car rewards you with higher limits than you’d guess, and because the suspension feels solid, you’re more likely to attack a bend than fear it.”

Moreover, “The needle the Terrain threads is in having a firm, stable, engaging ride, but rumble it through some potholes or engage adaptive cruise control and the Terrain eats miles comfortably.”

For its overall design, Top Speed stated, “This new Terrain looks of a piece with its bigger truck brethren. It has a tucked waist and broad shoulders, and from every angle it looks sportier and more rugged.” The reviewer also said that the Terrain “sits high enough to handle fire roads or snow.” Overall, Top Speed said that the 2025 GMC Terrain “looks burlier, and since most softroaders also look kinda wimpy, I dig the distinction.

The Terrain is also built to get away from the highway. The reviewer pointed out that “there are specific off-road modes to the Terrain, too, where you can lock the AWD…and the Terrain comes standard with hill-descent control.

Stepping inside, Top Speed heaped praise on the controls and connectivity of the 2025 Terrain’s interior, saying that “the switches in this crossover have a bit more heft, the vent controls are tactile, and there’s split-chrome accenting and supportive, cross-stitched seating. GMC also divides the center stack into two levels, with a bin beneath and slot for phone storage and wireless charging above, and unlike with some GM models, there are wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto syncing, standard.

Automotive customers appreciate tactile controls, and the 2025 Terrain delivers. As Top Speed pointed out, the Terrain includes a central volume knob, actual switches for the climate control, and the “home” button on the infotainment screen. Plus, the 2025 Terrain can “switch what you see in the instrument cluster, such as mapping, so you can ignore the tablet screen while following a route.”

Powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, the 2025 Terrain delivers on performance. Top Speed liked “the GMC’s spunky acceleration, aided by turbocharging, and in most circumstances it really is powerful enough. That low-down torque figure is a genuine advantage.”

In conclusion, Top Speed encourages you to consider the 2025 GMC Terrain when you are shopping for one of the popular SUVs, stating that “it gives you a sense of the landscape, and rather than just defaulting to the tried and true, you should know what else is out there.”
