2026 GMC Canyon

Performance

Powering all Canyons is the TurboMax 2.7-liter, turbocharged inline-four engine producing 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. The engine is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. On the standard Elevation trim, power is sent to the rear wheels. This is the most fuel-efficient Canyon trim with an EPA-estimated 18 mpg (city), 23 mpg (highway), and 20 mpg (combined). Four-wheel drive is available on the Elevation and standard on all other Canyons. Four-wheel drive fuel economy drops by one mpg to 17 mpg (city), 22 mpg (highway), and 19 mpg (combined).    

Ground clearance starts at 9.6 inches for the Elevation, AT4, and Denali. It bumps up to 10.7 inches with the AT4X and rises to a lofty 12.2 inches for the AT4X AEV Edition. The maximum payload is 1,640 pounds, and the maximum towing capacity is 7,700 pounds. The AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition drop the capacity to 6,000 pounds.    

All models above the Elevation include at least four drive modes for general and specialized driving scenarios. These modes include:   

• Normal – for balanced everyday on-road driving   

• Tow/Haul – for optimized hauling of heavy loads and towing   

• Terrain – for low-speed precision off-roading and rock crawling   

• Off-Road – for general off-road dynamics   

• Baja – for high-speed off-road driving (exclusive to AT4X models) 

Exterior

The exterior features start with a large rectangular grille flanked at the top by narrow LED daytime running lights with LED projector headlamps nestled in the corners below. Raised wheel arches provide ample wheel travel and add muscularity to the sides. All models feature deep-tinted glass (back and rear door glass), cargo area lamps, and a corner step on the rear bumper for better access to the cargo bed. Wheel size ranges from 17 to 20 inches, depending on trim. AT4X offers 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels with off-road-rated tires.  

Available on the Elevation is the innovative MultiStow tailgate storage system. This is perfect for storing items inside the wall of the tailgate. It also comes with a drain to let water out of the storage area.  

Interior

The dash has a refined and sophisticated horizontal design that looks rich on the Elevation and gets richer with each step up the trim-level hierarchy, including the luxurious Denali. Available features include an eight-way memory power adjustment for the driver and a six-way power adjustment for the front passenger.  

Other features include heated and ventilated front seats, a seven-speaker Bose® Premium audio system with an external amplifier, remote Express-Down for all windows, dual-zone climate control, HD Surround Vision, and more.  

Technology

All trim levels come standard with the 11.3-inch diagonal touchscreen infotainment system powered by the Google Built-in operating system, which features wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android AutoTM capability. 

Available is a configurable 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster and even a 6.3-inch head-up display, which is rare in the mid-size category.

AT4X models are available with up to ten camera views, including front and rear underbody cameras that let you be your own spotter when the terrain gets rough.

Safety

All 2026 Canyon models feature the Pro Safety array of safety and driver-assist technology features, which includes:   

• Forward Collision Alert with Automatic Emergency Braking   

• Front Pedestrian Braking with Bicyclist Detection   

• Following Distance Indicator   

• Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist   

•  IntelliBeam auto high beams    

Available features include Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Blind Zone Steering Assist, Rear Pedestrian Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
