2024 Changes for GMC Models

GMC brought plenty of changes for 2024. The biggest will be a complete redesign of the Acadia 3-row crossover. The Sierra HD had significant mid-cycle updates and the recently redesigned Colorado added a key special model. The Hummer EV sub-brand also continues to expand, with more grades available for the Pickup and the official launch of the SUV model line. Ewing Buick GMC takes you through the changes in detail. 

Acadia

First revealed at the 2023 North American Auto Show, the 2024 Acadia enters its 3rd generation with a return to its original full size. Its wheelbase is lengthened by over 8 inches, matching the Yukon’s at 120.9 inches. That leads to a 10-inch increase in overall length to 203.9 inches and more than four additional inches in width. Cargo space increases by 360% behind the 2nd row and 80% behind the 3rd row. 

A redesigned dash includes a standard 11-inch digital driver information center and a 15-inch center touchscreen powered by the Google Built-in system, which includes on-board Google Maps. All models are powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-4, making 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque. Maximum towing capacity is increased by 1,000 pounds to 5,000. 

The AT4 model adds more capability with a 1-inch taller ride height and a wider track. It also features 18-inch All-Terrain tires, an off-road-tuned suspension with hydraulic rebound control, an exclusive Active Torque Control system on the standard all-wheel drive, and Terrain Mode and Hill Descent control.

The Super Cruise highway hands-free driving system is now available on Elevation Premium AT4 and Denali models. 

Canyon 

The Canyon model line adds a new AT4X AEV Edition, which adds 1.5 inches of lift for a total of 12.2 inches and features 35-inch mud-terrain tires mounted to beadlock-capable wheels. The model includes bumpers, skid plates, and other off-road parts from off-road specialist American Expedition Vehicles. On all AT4X models, a launch control system is added to the Baja driving mode.

Sierra 1500

The Sierra’s standard turbocharged 310 horsepower, 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine is now called TurboMax and has a new five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. The AT4X now comes standard with the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel, which produces 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. A new active exhaust system is optional with SLT, AT4, and Denali models. Two new wheel designs and new colors round out the Sierra 1500 changes. 

Sierra HD

The Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD receive new front styling, new wheel designs, and a new interior design on SLE trim and higher grades. The model line expands in both off-road and luxury directions with the addition of AT4X and Denali Ultimate models.

Power for the available 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel is increased to 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. 10-speed Allison transmission is now standard with both the Duramax and the 6.6-liter gas V8. The standard 6.6-liter gasoline V8 engine pairs with a new 10-speed automatic transmission, while the Duramax 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 supplies more power with 470 horsepower at 2,800 rpm and 975 lb-ft at 1,600 rpm, cranking out 25 percent more low-end torque than the previous Duramax diesel.

A revised instrument panel is available with a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Also, a 15-inch head-up display is now available. New class-leading trailering technologies are also on offer. 

Terrain

The Terrain is mostly carry-over for 2024. A new Pro Safety Package is available for the SLE and SLT grades that includes both blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning systems, as well as rear parking sensors. All these items are standard on the AT4 and above models. 

Yukon

The Yukon is a pure carryover for the 2024 model year, with substantial changes expected for an early 2025 introduction.

Hummer EV Pickup

The Hummer EV Pickup First Edition production run has ended, and the new 3X trim level has arrived. Like the First Edition, it is powered by three electric motors and has a driving range of up to 381 miles. Also new for 2024 is a limited-production Omega Edition featuring an exclusive Neptune Blue matte-finish paint, unique wheels, and plush interior carpeting.

For overlanding enthusiasts, an EarthCruiser Upfit camper package features roof-top carbon fiber housing, which fits in the truck’s cargo bed while in transit. Additional package features include a 13.5-gallon fresh water tank, sink, induction cooking surface, refrigerator with freezer, and even an outdoor shower. Roof-mounted solar panels feed a 6-kWh lithium-ion battery for seven days of off-the-grid living.

Hummer EV SUV

The Hummer EV SUV was officially launched as a 2024 model. It has a shorter wheelbase than the Pickup, enabling better approach, break-over, and departure angles. 

The 2X model features one motor in the front and another in the rear for up to 570 horsepower and a possible 303 miles of range. Edition1, 3X, and Omega Edition models have three motors for up to 830 horsepower and 314 miles of range. 

Like the Pickup, the Hummer EV SUV offers Crabwalk, the Watts to Freedom 3.5-second power boost, and extract mode. Depending on the model, the SUV can provide 13 inches of suspension travel, 16 inches of ground clearance, and two feet of water-fording capability. 

The instrument panel is similar to the Pickup with a 12.3-inch digital driver information center, a 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with trail-mapping capability, and a high-definition surround view camera. Also, like the Pickup, there is an available Infinity Roof for the SUV with removable sky panels.
