Cutting the Cord for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Keyless entry was a feature meant to save you from reaching into your pocket for your keys as you entered your vehicle then Apple CarPlay and Android Auto came along and now you were reaching into your pocket or purse again to connect your phone to the car.  With the Encore GX, you don’t have to reach for anything as wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto are standard on all models. That is of course you want to take advantage of the available wireless charger.

Infotainment System

The Encore GX’s 8-inch display is integrated into the dash, so as not to be a distraction but high enough to be easily seen.  The touchscreen allows you to easily control audio, and hands-free phone calls, as well as the available navigation system and Wi-Fi hotspot.  On the “fast and convenient”, there are still physical controls for all climate functions and frequently used audio controls such as power, the volume knob, and track/station change.

Buick Driver Confidence

Standard on all Encore GX models is the Buick Driver Confidence bundle of safety and driver assist technologies.  Features include:

Front Pedestrian Braking – Gives you warnings when it detects a pedestrian in front of you and can even begin emergency braking.

• Intellibeam – Can automatically switch to low beams when there is an oncoming vehicle, and switch back after it has passed.
• Forward Collision Alert – Warns you if it detects a notable reduction in the distance of a vehicle directly in front of you
• Automatic Emergency Braking – For speeds below 50 mph, this will automatically provide emergency braking when a forward collision appears imminent. 
• Following Distance Indicator – Indicates the time in seconds between you and a detected vehicle directly in front of you so you can adjust your distance accordingly.
• Lane Keeping Assist – Provides a tug at the steering wheel to alert you if you are leaving your lane and have not activated a turn signal.

Alexa

In the Encore GX, Alexa is built-in through the use of the steering wheel voice control button.  Ask Alexa to play your favorite music mix, a music artist, or even a specific song, request directions to a location, initiate a phone call, voice-to-print message, and so much more.

Rear Camera Mirror

Available on the Essence Trim you can switch your rearview mirror to a rearview monitor to give you a wide unobstructed view behind you.  This can be particularly useful when the cargo area is filled and your mirror is blocked.  Switch between the mirror and camera view, and for the latter, you can adjust for brightness, zoom, and vertical tilt, all with ease.

Head-Up Display

As part of the Advanced Technology Package on the Select and Essence trim levels, the head-up display puts key information near your field of vision when looking at the road.  The aim is to give you just the information you want, not dazzle you with displays, so using a control to the left of the steering wheel, you can switch between five views:  speed, performance, audio, phone, and navigation direction steps.  You can also control the position and brightness of the display.  

Wi-Fi Hotspot

Keeping you and all your passengers in touch with the world, the ability to distribute a Wi-Fi connection to seven devices simultaneously is standard on all Encore GX models.  The Wi-Fi capability uses AT&T and does require a paid data plan. 

Advanced Technology Package

Available on the Select and Essence trims, this package adds additional technology to the Encore GX, including in-car navigation, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, and a head-up display.
