Changes Expected from GMC in 2023

February 26th, 2023 by

2023 is going to be a busy year for GMC and our Buick-GMC dealership. The year is going to be filled with mid-cycle updates, complete redesigns, and new model introductions. Here is a rundown of what we can expect from GMC this year.

Canyon gets a Full Redesign

First up is the first-ever complete redesign of the Canyon mid-size pickup, which has already begun production in January. As expected for a redesign, the Canyon will have completely new styling with exterior LED lighting all around. It will also be taller, and wider than the current model. All Canyons will be powered by the same 2.7-liter turbocharged Inline-4, but the engine will have three steps of tune ranging from 237 hp and 259 lb.-ft. of torque to a whopping 340 hp and 430 lb.-ft. An off-road-focused AT4X trim will join the Canyon lineup for the first time.

The interior is completely redesigned with an attractive horizontal-themed instrument panel similar to the redesigned dash on the Sierra. Lower trims-level will get an 8” touchscreen which grows to 11 inches for upper trim levels. The infotainment system will operate on Google Software and will offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. You can expect plenty of other available tech features including underbody cameras and a head-up display.

Safety and driver assist will get an upgrade as well with the ProSafety Package becoming standard on all models. Features will include Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking with Bicyclist Detection, IntelliBeam auto high beams, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Forward Collision Alert. There will also be an available Safety Plus Package with additional safety and driver assistance features.

Sierra AT4X AEV Edition to be the Most Off-Road Capable Production Sierra in History

Our inventory already contains 2023 Sierras with the beautiful new interior design and orders have already been taken for the new Sierra AT4X AEV Edition. AEV stands for American Expedition Vehicles and the AT4X AEV Edition will be equipped with key components from the famed off-road aftermarket company including front and rear bumpers, a full set of skid plates, and laser-engraved gloss black 18-inch AEV Salta wheels with the AEV recessed valve system and wrapped by 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. The AT4X AEV Edition’s ground clearance will be 11.2 inches and the front approach angle will rise from 25.5 to 32.5 degrees. Departure and break-over angles are also improved.

The GMC HUMMER EV SUV completes the HUMMER EV family and features a 126.7-inch wheelbase for tight proportions and a maneuverable body, providing remarkable on- and off-road capability.

Hummer EV SUV Production Begins

Production for the 2024 Hummer EV SUV began in February, so you will start seeing them on the road in a few months. Reservations for the Hummer SUV Edition 1 production run have been completely filled but once those orders are completed, production of EV3X and EV2X (3-motor and 2-motor respectively) trims will begin and start entering our inventory. The Hummer EV is based on the same platform as the Hummer EV Pickup, though with a 9-inch shorter wheelbase. Overall, it is about the size of the Yukon.

When the full model range is in production, it will be available with one, two, or three electric motors, the latter producing an expected 830 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque, enabling 0-60 mph sprints in approximately 3.5 seconds with the standard Watts to Freedom1 short-term burst. Available features include Four-Wheel Steer, CrabWalk diagonal-drive functionality, and an 800-volt DC public fast charging capability of up to 300 kW.

Also beginning production in February 2023 is the mid-cycle refresh of the 2024 Sierra HD, which will feature new styling, a new dash, new tech, and enhancements to the powertrain. For the most hardcore off-roaders among us, there will also be a Sierra HD AT4X.

And for 2024…

It doesn’t all happen in 2023, as early 2024 will see the arrival of the redesigned Acadia as well as the first EV Sierra, the EV Denali Edition 1. The rest of the Sierra EV model line will follow later in 2024. Other Hummer Pickup and SUV trim levels will appear in 2024 as well. Stay tuned, as there will also be a new 2024 Buick Encore GX later 2023, as well with a new front look for the Buick brand.

Naturally, our staff at Ewing Buick GMC are anticipating the arrival of the new models for our showroom floor. Our representatives will be studying hard on each vehicle to enlighten and share with you all you need to know when the new vehicles arrive, and apply your order in advance.
