2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X Front ViewThe AT4X is a recent addition to the GMC Sierra 2500 model line. Specializing in off-road ability while maintaining its heavy-duty capability and providing a comfortable place for the driver and passengers, the model checks a multitude of boxes, and Forbes was interested in just how many. Ewing Buick GMC recounts their experience here.

Forbes is quick to point out that the GMC Sierra 2500 AT4X is no economy car. The model line has a starting MSRP of $81,900, and the model they tested was optioned up to a cost of $103,075. “And well it should” is Forbes’ response to the price as the model took on everything they could throw at it with ease.

Power and Chassis

The version they tested was fitted with the 6.6-liter Duramax V-8 turbodiesel, which cranks out 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque and is mandated to an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission. Though being a diesel helps, between the engine, 35-inch tires, and 8,605-pound curb weight, the mileage amounts to 14 in the city and 17 on the highway. That won’t get any accolades from Green Car Review, but it isn’t unreasonable for something that will take you and four passengers just about anywhere, whether paved or not, and can also tow up to 18,000 pounds.

Luxury Inside

Probably the biggest contradiction of this vehicle is its luxurious interior, which Forbes  referred to as “where might meets posh.” Leather and wood decor are almost a given at this price range, but particular attention was given to the massaging front seats and 12-speaker Bose Premium Series audio system with Centerpoint surround technology. There is no lack of information for the driver between the 13.4-inch touchscreen, the 12.3-inch digital driver information center, and, on top of that – literally – the 15-inch head-up display. All of which they state are easy to use.

Driving Impression

The surround camera system is very useful for parking a vehicle of this size, particularly as you don’t see much below the window line. Forbes is the latest to discover the near magic that is the MultiMatic Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve (DSSV) dampers, which, when combined with a 1.5-inch suspension lift, provide loads of wheel travel when off-road but also offer up a remarkably smooth ride over rough surfaces. The Off-Road driving mode assists when the going gets really rough, and skid plates protect the engine steering rack, transfer case, and the most vulnerable parts of the exhaust system should you make a mistake.

Safety Technology

It is easy to feel safe in a vehicle of this size, but Forbes points out that standard technologies on the truck include:

  • Forward-collision warning
  • Automated emergency braking
  • Lane-departure warning
  • Llane-keeping assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert

In so many words, the publication states that if you have the ability to purchase and feed this truck, it will never let you down or come up short. If you are interested in that kind of comprehensive capability, visit Ewing Buick GMC and take the GMC Sierra 2500 AT4X for a test drive.
