GMC and American Expedition Vehicles Created The Ultimate Heavy Duty Pickup Truck

“The ultimate Heavy Duty Pickup Truck?” That’s what the website/YouTube channel The Fast Lane Truck (TFLTruck) named a modified 2025 GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4X built in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles. It is a specially-made combination of a pickup truck and camper that is ready for overlanding adventures.
This customized overlanding rig starts with a very capable pickup truck. The 2025 Sierra 2500HD AT4X comes standard with a 1.5-inch suspension lift, Multimatic DSSV dampers, rear electronic locking differential, and a mix of steel and aluminum skid plates underneath. You also have a choice of engines, with the available Duramax 6.6-liter turbocharged V8 diesel engine, connected to an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2025 Sierra 2500HD AT4X is not just about capability. Inside, you get comfortable while overlanding with 16-way heated and ventilated power front seats. There is a massage function added to those seats, just in case you get fatigued while scaling a rough section of the Hill Country. Those seats are upholstered in full-grain leather with technical grain leather accents. The cabin is finished in authentic Vanta ash wood.
There is an AEV edition that is available for the AT4X. That package adds stamped steel bumpers, along with steering gear and transfer case steel skid plates. That adds more strength and capability to the 2025 Sierra 1500 AT4X.

On top of the capabilities of the 2025 Sierra 2500HD AT4X, AEV added several modifications to make it a true overlanding rig. They added a 37-inch tire clearance kit to fit a set of 37×13.5-inch all-terrain tires, replacing the standard 35-inch tires. The AEV Snorkel – a raised air intake – is a feature that was developed for the Sierra HD. Up front is a prototype light bar that incorporates the stock front camera and camera washer system.
In the bed is a heavy-duty OEV (Overland Explorer Vehicle) “slide-in” type camper. It is actually more than that, since it has additional batteries, solar panels, an inverter, and additional gear inside the camper unit.
How does it drive? TFLTruck observed that this Sierra 2500HD AT4X-based overlanding rig “did not put a wheel wrong while climbing up and down some of the obstacles on the Tombstone Trail near Boulder, Colorado.”
There is a twist to the TFLTruck video story. That truck is on sale through the Bring a Trailer website. Proceeds from the sale of this customized Sierra 2500HD AT4X will benefit the Overland Expo Foundation. They showed off the truck at their Overland Expo events in Colorado and Virginia ahead of the online sale. In total, the entire truck can go for an estimated MSRP of $175,000.
If you miss out on the Bring a Trailer auction for this overlanding rig, you can start with a 2025 or 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X and the available AEV Edition package and build the rest.
