GMC Truck Bed Gets More Storage Solutions

General Motors revolutionized the pickup truck tailgate with multi-function tailgates for the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado. The 2024 model year brought further improvements to the trucks’ cargo-carrying capabilities, as GMC added a new Utility Wall Package for all trim levels of the Sierra 1500.

The $1,495 package includes three main components: the bedside utility wall package, a utility wall latch kit, and a front bed utility wall package. This package cannot be equipped with the available drop-in bedliner.

GMC offers a range of powertrain options for the trucks, starting with the standard TurboMax inline-four-cylinder, making 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The available 5.3-liter V8 makes 355 horsepower and 383 pounds of torque, while the uprated 6.2-liter V8 produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Last, a turbocharged 3.0-liter diesel that produces 305 horsepower and 495 pounds of torque is available. The two V8s and diesel come paired with a ten-speed automatic, while the turbo-four comes with an eight-speed automatic.

Those powertrains deliver excellent capability:

• TurboMax Inline-Four: Up to 2,240 pounds of payload and 9,500 pounds of towing
• 5.3-liter V8: Up to 2,240 pounds of payload and 11,200 pounds of towing
• 6.2-liter V8: 1,820 pounds of payload and 13,000 pounds of towing
• Duramax Diesel: Up to 1,890 pounds of payload and 13,200 pounds of towing

The Sierra 1500 seats up to six people, depending on the configuration. Its cabin is more upscale and luxurious than the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, bringing upscale materials and a slightly more appealing design. Cloth upholstery comes standard, but higher trims add leather and are available with heated and ventilated seats, massaging, and a heated steering wheel.

GMC equips a seven-inch digital gauge cluster and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 13.4-inch display, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless charging, two Bose stereo options, SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth, wireless smartphone mirroring, and more are available. GMC’s infotainment interface is easy-to-use and responsive, with clearly labeled menus, options, and intuitive displays. That makes using the infotainment system less distracting while driving, and the long list of standard and available features makes the Sierra 1500 a compelling upscale full-size truck.
