2025 GMC Acadia Denali Rear Seat DetailTraveling with children can be a challenge on longer road trips. You want to keep them entertained and happy during every mile. Here in the Metroplex, there’s a lot of miles to cover.

One thing that children want is to be fed, and snacking is one way for children to stay happy over stretches of interstate highways. However, proper nutrition is important these days, especially when you are providing snacks for your children. Many studies are dissuading parents from providing snacks that are loaded with processed sugar that can be unhealthy in the short- and long-run.

Perhaps it is time to switch things up on long road trips. How about providing your children with healthier snack options? Healthy snacks are important for children because they can help them manage hunger, maintain energy, and develop properly.

  • Veggie sticks (carrots, celery, cucumbers, to name a few). Include individual hummus cups.
  • Whole-grain crackers or rice cakes with peanut butter or almond butter.
  • String cheese or small cheese cubes.
  • Yogurt tubes or pouches. Freeze these beforehand to keep them cold.
  • Trail mix with nuts, dried fruits, and a few dark chocolate chips.
  • Mini sandwiches or wraps with lean meats and veggies.

These are all great ideas that are healthier and full of nutritional value. Most of them do not require a cooler and can be served within the climate control of the vehicle.

Water is always the best choice to keep your children hydrated. There are many sources of water available, and if it helps, add in a little sugar-free lemonade powder. Plus, they can fit in the many cupholders and door pockets of your GMC.

If you did not pack them before you leave, these food items are easily found at gas stations with convenience stores. Don’t forget the water!

Door pockets, cupholders, armrest stowage … you name it! There are places for their snacks that they can easily access neatly.

Coolers always make for smart storage. Adding an ice pack helps keep your snacks cool. Find one that fits and is within reach of your children. If you’re looking for another great solution, GMC offers the Dometic CFX3-55IM Powered Cooler through its Accessories catalog or from our parts department. It is a great food storage unit that is attached to the box of your Sierra 1500 or Sierra Heavy Duty. It can be powered by AC (110-240V), DC (12/24V), and DC solar power battery.
