​​How Do Car Seats Fit In The GMC Acadia​?

The GMC Acadia was made for family adventures. When you have infants and toddlers, does your vehicle ensure they ride as safely and comfortably as everyone else? Every year, Cars.com examines how child safety seats fit in each and every vehicle sold in our market. Their focus has always been on SUVs, as they are now the default family hauler. Recently, they did their Car Seat Check test on the 2024 GMC Acadia. According to Cars.com, it passed the test quite well.  

Their testing methodology was developed by two Cars.com staffers who are certified child safety seat installation technicians. They use specific child seats for their testing – an infant safety seat, a convertible seat, and a booster seat. The testers adjust the front seats for a 6-foot driver and a shorter passenger.  

The three child seats are installed in the second row, if applicable. The booster seat sits behind the driver’s seat, and the infant and convertible seats are installed behind the front passenger seat. Then, Cars.com installs the forward-facing convertible in the second row’s middle seat with the booster and infant seat in the outboard seats to see if three child seats would fit. Also, a child sitting in the booster seat must be able to reach the seat belt buckle. If there’s a third row, the booster seat and a forward-facing convertible seat are installed in that row.  

In order to receive the highest score for the Car Seat Check tests – an “A” grade – there has to be plenty of room for the car seat and the child, which should not impact driver or front-passenger legroom. There should also be easy-to-find and connect Latch and tether anchors available for these seats. There should be no fit issues involving head restraint or seat contouring. Lastly, there should be easy access to the third row of seats. 

How did the 2024 GMC Acadia fare in the Child Seat Check tests? It received six “A” grades. They took the top grade in latching the child seats, infant seat fitting, rear-facing and forward-facing convertible seats, booster seats, and third-row seat access to installing and fitting the child seats. They found that using child seats inside the 2024 GMC Acadia’s cabin was easy and accommodating for everyone on board in every situation.  

Cars.com adds one tip for parents utilizing child seats. “Parents should also remember that they can use the Latch system or a seat belt to install a car seat and that Latch anchors have a weight limit of 65 pounds, including the weight of the child and the weight of the seat itself.”
