GM Energy Home System

Every year, you can count on a weather event rolling through the Metroplex that will affect the electrical grid in our community. From tornadoes and icy conditions to extreme heat, our precious energy supply can be interrupted. It may take minutes or even days to recover from a power cut or loss. What role does your GMC electric vehicle play in such a scenario?

It starts with thinking that your HUMMER EV Pickup Truck, SUV, or Sierra EV as more than just transportation. The battery architecture and high-voltage electrical system can take you to work, school, errands, and more. That “more” includes returning energy to your home during a power loss.

General Motors offers a Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) solution that can do exactly that. It enables your V2H-compatible GMC EV to charge bidirectionally, sending energy from its battery pack into your home. This requires dedicated GM Energy V2H equipment installed on the home side to safely manage, convert, and control the flow of energy between your GMC and the home.

This V2H system installed at your home includes A GM Energy PowerShift charger, a 35.4-kilowatt-hour GM Energy PowerBank, a Home Hub, and an Inverter. All of which can keep the lights and your appliances running for several hours after a power cut. A 10.6-kilowatt-hour PowerBank is also available.

Solar Panels

You can also combine the GM Energy V2H solution with solar power. This enables a set of solar panels to recoup energy from the sun and feed it back into your home electrical system, in addition to the energy flow from your GMC EV. The PowerBank helps store energy from the sun through the solar panels in case of a power cut, adding more electricity back into your home.

The benefits of using V2H GM Energy solutions are tremendous. Having a way to connect your GMC EV to your home through these systems will keep you going when the weather prevents you from doing so. Having another energy source during a power cut will ensure that you can take care of your family, protect what’s important to you – such as keeping food refrigerated and pets comfortable – and provide temporary relief from any loss of power.

There are more solutions available that utilize the energy from your GMC EV.  You can equip your HUMMER EV Pickup Truck, SUV, or Sierra EV with Vehicle-to-Load capability to provide portable power to the jobsite or campground. The Power Station Pro feature can provide 10.2-kilowatt hours of offboard power when you need it.
