Hummer3X Differences From Edition 1 May Include Increased Range

May 25th, 2023 by

The GMC HUMMER EV SUV completes the HUMMER EV family and features a 126.7-inch wheelbase for tight proportions and a maneuverable body, providing remarkable on- and off-road capability.

Pre-orders have sold out Hummer Edition 1 trim levels for both the EV Pickup and EV SUV model lines.  For those interested in the new Hummer models, the attention is now turned to the EV3X trim levels that follow the Edition 1 models in production.  The EV3X trims are just one step down from the Edition 1s and will be the first vehicles from the brand to enter the Ewing Buick GMC inventory. It turns out the EV3X models may have improved range over the Edition 1.

EV3X Pickup

Like the Edition 1 trim, the EV3X Pickup has three identical motors.  One is placed in front, and there is a motor for each wheel in the rear.  The EV3X also shares Edition 1’s in collectively having 1,000 horsepower and, after reduction gears, 11,500 lb-ft of wheel torque. The 3X has some standard Edition 1 features as options, such as the removable  Sky Panels, which stow in the frunk and give the truck an open-air driving experience.  Also optional is the Edition 1’s standard Extreme Off-Road Package, which includes:

  • Additional underbody cameras
  • Additional skid plates
  • Rocker protection with built-in assist steps
  • 18-inch wheels with 35-inch Mud-Terrain tires.

In standard form, the EV3X Pickup has 22” wheels, 35-inch All-Terrain tires, and it is this tire combination that boosts the EV3X’s overall EV range to 355 miles as compared to 329 miles for the Edition 1.  Without the Extreme Off=Road Package, the maximum towing capacity is also increased from 7,500 to 8,500 pounds.

Similar to the EV Pickup, the EV SUV has a sold-out Edition 1 trim which is followed in production by the EV3X SU.  It also has the same 3-motor drivetrain as the Edition 1  Because the EV SUV has a 9-inch shorter wheelbase than the Pickup, the number of battery cells is reduced from 24 to 20.  All EV SUV’s 3 motors have a collective output of  830 horsepower though it does retain the Pickup’s overall torque at the wheels of 11,500 lb-ft. of torque.  The Extreme Off-Road Package is optional on both the Edition 1 and the EV3X.  The package is primarily the same as on the EV Pickup, including the 18-inch wheel 35-inch Mud Terrain tire combination.  With the package, the estimated range for the EV3X SUB is 298, while without the package the estimated range extends to 314 miles.

CrabWalk and WTF to be Standard on EV3X Models

The 4-wheel Steer feature is standard on EV3X trims of both the SUV and Pickup, which helps make the large vehicle more maneuverable. This means the CrabWalk feature is also standard and turns the rear wheels up to 10 degrees in the same direction as the front wheels to enable the vehicles to move diagonally around obstacles. The Watts to Freedom (WTF) feature is also standard on EV3X trims and works as both a power boost and launch control system.  You activate WTF by pressing both the brake and accelerator pedals, whereupon the body lowers two inches, and the front and rear dampers are stiffened to reduce body shift at launch. Releasing the brake pedal unlocks extra current flow from the motors and inverters, and the result is a 0-60 time of just over 3 seconds.

The EV3X Pickup and EV3X SUV are expected to enter the Ewing Buick GMC inventory by the time you read this. If you can’t find what you are looking for, one of our Sales Professionals can help find one from the dealer network.
