KBB Drives the 2026 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate

The GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate sits at the top of the Sierra 1500 line as its most luxurious truck. Kelley Blue Book (KBB.com) reviewed the model to see what motoring was like at the top of the GMC luxury hierarchy, describing it as “Sitting at the crossroads of luxury, capability, and technology”. Ewing Buick GMC summarizes what they found.
As the 4-door full-size pickup capable of seating five comfortably became common, they increasingly added family transport to their list of capabilities. No longer would a successful tradesman have to ride in a spartan truck during the workday only to have another vehicle at home to take the family out to eat. Full-size trucks could now cover it all. And just as there has been a century of those with the means opting for a luxury family car, a market for luxury trucks has developed. But while it has been possible to get a truck with a luxury badge, most truck buyers prefer an experienced truck builder for their ride, and you can’t get more experienced than GMC.

This led to the creation of the Denali luxury sub-brand. The Denali name immediately identifies the model as a luxury product, while GMC’s know-how is always there. The concept behind Denali Ultimate is actually pretty simple. The Sierra 1500 Denali was available with a series of options, and the ultimate model would be to add all those options. That is effectively what the Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate is. Select one, and there is very little left on the order sheet to check off.
It certainly presents itself well. With its squared-off stance, generous chrome trim, sophisticated wheel design, and large, well-detailed grille, KBB describes it as “…the kind of truck that looks like it already knows it’s the nicest thing in the Home Depot parking lot.” Yet it still presents itself as a very nice GMC truck. It won’t have your customers immediately question your profit margin. Instead, it communicates capability and quality, which is likely exactly what your customers want to think about when they consider your work.

The 6.2-liter V8 is the standard engine. It is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and sends power to all four wheels via the standard 4-wheel-drive system. The big-displacement engine delivers the effortless, unstressed power you want from a luxury vehicle—no waiting for a turbo to spool up or for a transition between gas and electric drive. Just push the pedal, and it responds. KBB’s description: “Even at 6,000 feet, the Sierra moves with a kind of relaxed authority that suits a luxury truck. The 10-speed transmission plays along nicely, shifting with confidence rather than aimlessly searching for torque bands.”
The cabin, of course, is where most of the premium pricing goes. There is the Alpine Umber leather with topographical texturing, standard, of course. The front seats are heated and ventilated, with a massaging function. “Material quality is strong throughout. The leather is comfortable, the wood trim walks the line between premium and decorative, and most touchpoints feel thoughtfully chosen,” observed KBB.

SuperCruise is also standard. KBB found some limitations in the system, though they appear to be limited to urban settings. They point out that the system initiated a left pass as an exit approached on the right. Fair enough, but SuperCruise mostly comes into its own on the open road.
They also point out that the Denali Ultimate is still designed for truck capability, so it won’t have the same ride as a luxury sedan. But no luxury sedan has a towing capacity of up to 13,300 pounds (when fitted with the Duramax turbodiesel, one of its few options).
Getting the Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate means never wishing you had more. It’s all there for the lifetime of your ownership, which could be a very long time.
