The purpose of a muffler is to reduce engine noise and emissions. It is a part of the exhaust system. The exhaust is the pipe that carries the exhaust away from the vehicle. There are many signs that you may notice if there is something wrong with the exhaust system. For example, you may notice that the engine makes a lot more noise than usual. You may notice a hissing sound. Decreased acceleration and power is something else that you will likely notice.

It will be harder for you to accelerate. You also won’t be able to get as much power when you accelerate. Decreased fuel efficiency is another sign that you may notice. The fuel efficiency decreases when your power and acceleration decreases. You may find that you have to make more trips to the gas station.
