A BRIEF LOOK AT BUICK HISTORY

The formal name for ‘Buick’ is Buick Motors, a division of the beloved automotive company General Motors (GM). You are correct if you thought the ‘Buick’ name was a surname. The founder of Buick was a pioneer within the auto industry, David Dunbar Buick. Mr. Buick was a front person among the first American marques of automobiles.

The luxury vehicles were managed by another founder, William C. Durant, an investor in the company. Durant became the founder of GM in 1908. To much surprise, Buick was established on May 19, 1903, before what became its parent company.

What do you think of the new logo for Buick? There does seem to be a registered trademark for the pending emblem. As a possible coincidence the latter part of last year Buick filed a trademark for the all-electric Buick Electra nameplate.

From the photo, we can see that Buick is sticking to the three shields that began showing up on vehicles in 1937. Although it is not entirely clear why the shields are chosen, they are said to be the ancestral coat of arms: a red shield with a checkered line, a stag’s head, and a gold cross:
