Taking the GMC HUMMER EV SUV on a Desert Road Trip
The 2025 GMC HUMMER EV SUV was made to tackle anything in its wake—any terrain, any condition, any time. The team at duPont Registry recently took a 2025 GMC HUMMER EV SUV out into the desert to see if it could take on this desolate, challenging terrain.
Normally, this magazine covers the finest automobiles in the world. However, the HUMMER EV SUV is designed to be an aspirational all-electric vehicle that is imposing and desirable at the same time, which was why the typical reader of duPont Registry would want to add a HUMMER EV SUV to his or her own fleet. Yet, some of these owners may have never seen a desert floor before, or the flatlands of West Texas, or maybe the challenging trails along the Rio Grande. DuPont Registry did the work to introduce its readership to the challenge of desert running in a three-motor 2025 HUMMER EV SUV.
One may think that “desert running” is just driving in the middle of a dry patch of land or through some sand dunes. Not exactly. There are maintained yet challenging trails laid out across public lands in desert areas. One element that makes the desert particularly unique is the temperatures. A desert could be hot during the day, then turn cold at night. Temperature variances also add to both the adventure and challenge of running through a desert.
The 2025 GMC HUMMER EV SUV 3X has features on-board to maximize your adventure, including CrabWalk, Watts to Freedom, and Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance technology. However, when it comes to off-roading, it all starts with the 2025 HUMMER EV SUV’s e4WD system. On the 3X, this system can channel power to a single wheel. Combined with 13 inches of suspension travel, the e4WD system keeps the vehicle moving in very tough terrain. You can also climb 60-percent grades in forward and reverse, scale 18-inch verticals, and traverse more than two feet of water.
Essential to CrabWalk is the 4-Wheel Steer system, which has a 35.4-foot turning radius. When you enable CrabWalk, the system will enable the 4-Wheel Steer to maneuver diagonally around obstacles. This comes into play when faced with a tough curve or maneuver that requires some effort to get around.
One-Pedal Driving can slow the vehicle to a complete stop using only the accelerator pedal, providing excellent control. At the same time, Terrain Mode uniquely integrates the brake system with One-Pedal Driving, giving the driver precise control while off-roading and rock crawling. In addition, Regen on Demand can slow the vehicle to a complete stop without pressing the brake pedal, feeding that energy back into the vehicle.
The key word to desert running is “running.” That is where Watts to Freedom comes into play. The 2025 HUMMER EV SUV 3X can sprint from a dead-stop to 60 mph in an exotic sportscar-beating 3.3 seconds, reach 100 mph in 8.8 seconds, and trip the quarter-mile wire in 11.9 seconds.

Once you leave the desert, you can take it easy on the Interstate home by enabling Super Cruise. When enabled, you also have an automatic lane change feature to make the drive home safe, steady, and comfortable inside your 2025 HUMMER EV SUV.
To sum it all up, the duPont Registry said this about its experience in the 2025 HUMMER EV SUV: “In an industry often consumed by chasing segment targets and outgoing competitors, it is easy to forget that cars still need to be fun. Thankfully, the Hummer doesn’t.”
