The GMC Sierra EV Is a Towing Beast

August 1st, 2025 by

Can a battery-electric pickup truck tow as well as one with an internal combustion engine? This is a question we are often asked when customers look at the 2025 GMC Sierra EV.

The 2025 Sierra EV is a capable pickup truck. In Denali trim, it offers available dual-motor propulsion, putting down 765 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque. With this configuration, you can tow up to 10,000 pounds. It can also give you a maximum range of up to 465 miles.

It is equipped with 4-Wheel Steer and Crab Walk diagonal maneuverability, which are available to assist in positioning your 2025 Sierra EV. Air Ride Adaptive Suspension smooths out any rough pieces of tarmac your 2025 Sierra EV and trailer may encounter on the way to your destination. The 2025 Sierra EV Denali is also equipped with the Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance system. You can set up the system to include your trailer as you let Super Cruise drive down the highway on compatible roads.

The features and numbers can speak for themselves. How does a Sierra EV fare when it is put to the test?

The website Torque News reported on a Sierra EV owner that took his 9,000-pound boat and trailer on a trip that he posted about on a social media forum. The owner reported that he drove over 50 miles with the boat, which was equipped with dual outboard motors and had around 145 gallons of fuel in the tank.

When this owner started the trip, he had around 459 miles of range. At the end of the trip, he was down to 75% state of charge with around 347 miles of range.

Regarding his experience, the owner stated, The EV pulled stronger and smoother than a [Sierra 2500HD]. An absolute incredible experience to trailer heavy weight with. No white knuckles and one pedal driving was seamless.”

The Sierra EV owner added that “the air ride suspension showed no signs of squatting, and it made hooking and unhooking the trailer a breeze with the selective ride height. And backing into place with the four-wheel steer was a dream. Hands down outperforms any ICE truck on the market.”

Torque News also reported that the response to this social media post was very positive, observing that these reactions aren’t just casual agreement, as they represent a growing shift in how people view electric pickups. They’re shaping a new conversation, and not about whether EVs can tow, but whether there’s much reason left to stick with gas in the first place.Furthermore, “As someone who’s been watching the EV space evolve, stories like [the GMC Sierra EV owner’s] give me hope that electric trucks are finally entering their practical phase. It seems we’re past the point where they stop being experiments, and instead being tools we can rely on.
