​​The Multi-Pro Midgate is A Feature You Need​

The GMC Sierra EV has been making waves in the truck market with its remarkably impressive features, usability, range, power, and a 12,300-pound towing capacity. Buyers and journalists alike have been falling in love with the way the truck looks before they even get behind the wheel. And once they start driving the Sierra EV, they realize it’s not just feature-rich, but just plain great to drive.  

The MultiPro Midgate 

However, it’s in using the Sierra EV every day that everyone truly understands what makes it a better and more brilliant truck than much of its competition. One specific feature that has become much appreciated is the inclusion of the MultiPro Midgate. More on that in a minute, though.  

Trim Levels and Power 

Powering the Sierra EV are two electric motors, one on each axle. The standard Elevation trim is available with either the Standard or Extended range batteries; the upscale Denali trim level is available in Standard, Extended, and Max range. Finally, the off-road-ready AT4 is available in Extended or Max. Elevation trims offer up to 645 horsepower and 765 lb-ft of torque in Extended range. The Denali model, with the same battery capability, delivers equal power with an additional 20 lb-ft of torque. However, when going for the Max range option, the Denali will pump out 760 total horsepower. The AT4, which is the most off-road-ready of the Sierra EV trims, produces 625 horsepower in Extended range and 725 horsepower with the Max range batteries, along with 775 lb-ft of torque. 

Buyers Love the Range 

The EPA has estimated that the Elevation trim will achieve a range of 410 miles, while the Denali and AT4 models can drive up to 478 miles on a single charge. When utilizing an 800-volt DC Fast Charger, it can recoup up to 116 miles of range in just 10 minutes. 

How To Use the MultiPro Midgate 

For the first time on any GMC, the availability of the MultiPro Midgate allows the rear portion that separates the cab from the bed to be opened for extra length. GMC says it takes about 20 minutes to either take down or put back up. All you need to do is fold the rear seats forward, remove the rear glass, and store it in its designated holder before lowering the Midgate. By the way, all of this can be done by just one person without any issue, including removing the rear glass.

Once you have lowered the Midgate, you will have a total of 10 feet 10 inches of cargo length.

In a review by Patrick George of InsideEVs, he found the MultiPro Midgate to be extremely helpful during a recent home renovation where he needed to get rid of a bunch of stuff, saying, “Some of these items would’ve needed to be chopped up or broken apart if I didn’t want them hanging out the back of the truck with the tailgate down. But with the midgate, I could fit all this detritus neatly in the bed, with the tailgate securely up. The Sierra EV opens a whole world of in-cabin hauling space this way. I’d later haul a queen-size mattress out of a storage unit, and it too fit perfectly in the truck bed with the help of the midgate.”
