What Can the Multi-Pro Tailgate Do?

January 5th, 2024 by

The GMC MultiPro tailgate has been available for about five years now, so it is likely you have seen a GMC truck equipped with one. By appearances, it looks like a tailgate with a smaller tailgate within it, but unless you have operated the tailgate in person, you may not know of all of its different configurations. Even if you have given it a try, you may not know every possibility the Mulit-Pro Tailgate can accomplish. Let Ewing Buick GMC give you a quick rundown of this great GMC truck feature.

Person Loading a GMC MultiPro Tailgate

Enhanced Conventional Use

Even when used as just a conventional tailgate, its function is enhanced with a built-in torsional spring and damper, making lowering and raising the tailgate smooth. This prevents the tailgate from slamming down when opened, which can cause wear over time.

Primary Gate Load Stop

If you use a pickup truck for any amount of time, you will inevitably lower the tailgate to use as an extension of the bed floor. The only issue is anything in the bed has to be well strapped into place so as not to slide out the open rear. The Primary Load Stop is a panel that flips up at the tailgate’s end to keep items as an auxiliary tailgate and keep things in place.

Inner Gate Work Surface

Lowering just the inner gate, enables multiple functions. When the truck is stopped, the inner gate can be lowered to provide a convenient work surface with a workbench-level height. For loading, the lowered inner gate can create a cradle at the end for long items that may slide to the side, such as long pipes or boards. If their length falls within the inner gate extension, the Load Stop can be deployed to help keep longer items in place.

Easier Load Access and Full-width Step

Lowering the inner gate when the full tailgate is down allows you to stand 7-9 inches closer to the items in your bed to ease loading adjustments or unloading items. For even more access in this configuration, open the load stop panel, which is now a 48-inch wide horizontal step rated to hold 375 pounds. Combined with the steps built into the bumper corners, you have easy access to everything near the rear of the cargo bed. For additional utility, a hand-grab pole can be folded out from the cargo box to assist in stepping up to the cargo bed.

GMC MultiPro Tailgate MultiPro Audio System

Outdoor Audio

Standard on Sierra 1500 AT4X and Denali Ultimate grades and available Ewing Buick GMC-installed accessory, the MultiPro Audio System by KICKER is a 100-watt exterior audio system integrated within the tailgate’s inner panel. The system has two 4-inch coaxial speakers and a compact amplifier separate from the truck audio system, which means the system will operate when the truck is fully turned off, and the cabin locked. Lowering the full-width step reveals audio controls for volume, play/pause, and skip forward/back. Also revealed is a USB port that can be used both as an audio source and for device charging, or the source can come from Bluetooth® streaming. Naturally, the audio system speakers and controls are all weather resistant. The system automatically shuts off when the top is folded, and the tailgate closed.

The MultiPro Tailgate simply makes your GMC Pickup even more useful. Even if you have been using conventional tailgates for years, it is a good bet you will use some of the MultiPro Tailgates functionality regularly and wonder how you got by without it.

Come to Ewing Buick GMC to check out the MultiPro Tailgate for yourself, and you will quickly see what it can do for you.
