Which 2025 GMC Canyon AT4 Would You Choose?
While most mid-size pickup trucks are offered with one or two off-road-ready models, GMC offers three. Picking the right one depends on one thing: How hardcore do you want your off-road experience to be?
The 2025 GMC Canyon is available in a trio of AT4 models with degrees of toughness and capability. All three start from a basic point—the AT4 off-road trim. From there, you have the AT4X with more built-in capability. Then, there is the AT4X AEV Edition, adding more protection to get through the rougher stuff.
What are the differences between these three 2025 Canyon AT4 models?
They all are powered by a 310-horsepower TurboMax 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine running through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Four-wheel drive is standard with a two-speed Autotrac transfer case and an automatic locking rear differential.
All three AT4s offer nice cabins in which to get through rougher terrain. Standard is an 11.3-inch infotainment system equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. On those rare cold spells, you get the convenience of heated front seats.
The AT4’s exterior wears a set of 18-inch Dark Gray machined aluminum wheels and 265/65R18 all-terrain tires, as well as a traditional rear bumper design. AT4 also adds an off-road suspension with a two-inch lift. As for pickup truck capability, the AT4 can tow up to 7,700 pounds while carrying a 1,570-pound payload.
Stepping up to the AT4X, you ride on a set of 17-inch Black High Gloss machined aluminum wheels wearing LT285/70R17C mud-terrain tires. The AT4X receives a set of underbody cameras as well as off-road rocker protection. Inside, you are treated to an exclusive Obsidian Rush interior trim with ventilated front seats. In addition, the AT4X gets a three-inch lift with Multimatic jounce control dampers and front and rear electronic locking differentials. You can also tow up to 6,000 pounds with a payload capacity of 1,260 pounds.
The third and final step up is the AT4X AEV Edition. On top of the AT4X, American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) adds stamped steel bumpers, a set of skid plates underneath, and a set of 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels riding on LT315/70R17 mud-terrain tires. The AEV Edition adds subtle branding elements like embroidered headrests and stamped parts throughout.
Choosing between three very capable pickup trucks is not easy. The 2025 GMC Canyon AT4 family is ready to take you wherever you want, from the deepest unknown parts of Texas to down the street for dinner on a date.
