Why the GMC Terrain Should Be Your Next Compact Crossover

June 10th, 2025 by

When the name GMC gets mentioned, you will likely think of the full-size Sierra 1500 pickup truck or the Yukon full-size truck-based SUV. What probably doesn’t come to mind is a compact crossover—but GMC has a good one. In fact, the Terrain has just been redesigned for 2025 and should definitely be considered if you are looking for a model from America’s most popular vehicle category. Ewing GMC gives you the reasons why.

Exterior Design

In its third generation, the Terrain adopts the family face of its pickup and large SUV siblings with a large, bold front grille flanked by C-shaped LEDs, which in turn surround LED headlights. It is a design that instantly conveys capability, complemented by an attractive profile that highlights strength through the robust body color of the C-pillar. For a touch of flair, the roof can now be offered in a contrasting color for a two-tone appearance.

Interior Design

The interior has also been redesigned for 2025. The centerpiece of the dashboard is a 15.0-inch vertically formatted touchscreen that sprouts up from the center console. The screen is bright and responsive, thanks to a new Google Built-in operating system that accommodates standard wireless compatibility for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The bottom of the display works in concert with physical controls for the HVAC system, and the can’t-miss volume knob emerges from the lower section of the screen itself. The popular Google Maps navigation app is available even when a smartphone isn’t present, and the Google Assistant brings clarity and confidence to its responses to voice commands. Additional Google apps can be downloaded into the vehicle from the Google App Store.

Also standard is the bright and configurable 11.0-inch driver’s display. The transmission selector is now an easy-to-use steering column stalk, freeing up the dash for the big screen and the center console for convenient storage.

Spacious Cabin

Like all compact crossovers, the Terrain is designed to accommodate five passengers and their cargo. Not only does it achieve this, but it also provides rear passengers with nearly forty inches of legroom (39.2 inches) and 55.2 inches of shoulder room. Cargo volume behind the rear seats is a generous 29.8 cubic feet, which expands to 63.5 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down. An available panoramic roof can make the interior feel even more spacious.

The Terrain’s single trim line comes standard with 15 distinct safety technologies, including:

  • Forward Collision Alert
  • High-Definition Rear Vision Camera
  • Following Distance Indicator

Affordable Price

The GMC Terrain stands out as a premium model in its segment, yet it is not priced like one. It has a starting MSRP of just $30,000 for the front-drive model. This price includes the large touchscreen, digital driver’s center, automatic climate control, and all the safety features mentioned earlier. There are options available, of course, including the previously mentioned panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera system, digital rearview mirror, and memory power seats, among others, but everything starts from a low, affordable baseline.
