Yukon/Yukon XL Gets a Major Tech Refresh

February 5th, 2024 by

While we are still waiting for an official release of photos and full information regarding the updates to the 2025 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, we do know that they will get much love in the technology and engine departments.

Signature Headlights

The full-size GMC SUVs are expected to arrive with updated C-shaped headlights to more closely match the all-new 2024 GMC Acadia. The taillights should receive a mild change to coincide with the headlights, and the front fascia will most likely be given a fresher face for the mid-cycle refresh.

Upgraded Duramax Diesel

The major engine news includes upgrades to the 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel that now produces 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque, which is an increase of 28 horsepower and 35 lb-ft of torque. The 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter motors will remain unchanged.

Trim Levels

For 2024, the trim levels for the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL are SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. We do not currently expect that to change, or if they do, it won’t be a drastic change. GMC may change SLE and SLT to Elevation and Elevation Premium to more closely align with the Sierra trucks.

As of right now, the engines and trim levels the Yukon models can be optioned with are below:

  • 3.0-liter diesel with 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque
    • Optional on SLE, SLT, Denali, and Denali Ultimate
  • 5.3-liter with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque
    • Standard on: SLE, SLT, and AT4
  • 6.2-liter with 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque
    • Standard on Denali and Denali Ultimate
    • Optional on AT4

Interior Redesign

The new and improved technology for drivers and passengers will be the real hallmark of the 2025 Yukon models. The center console area will be redesigned to offer better ergonomics and will include a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen on all models, which leads to the 11-inch digital gauge cluster display. Thanks to the redesigned center console, the wireless charger is now more conveniently accessible, and the steering wheel is a new design. New interior trim and color options will round out the changes to further differentiate between the 2024 and 2025 models.

Revised Suspension & Technology

Revised suspension and updated trailering technology should be added to the Yukon and Yukon XL, but we will know more about that soon enough. There should also be new safety features, such as an interior motion sensor that can warn you if an animal or person has been left behind and alert you by sounding the vehicle’s alarm. New interior and exterior cameras will be available to allow owners to remotely look at interior and exterior images of the vehicle through a network of cameras. Customers will be able to see 360-degree views, automatic crash recording, security recording, live view, and My Recordings through a dash cam function. This information can be stored with cloud-based storage.
