GM is Assembling a Charging Network for North America

In collaboration with six of the biggest car manufacturers in the world today—BMW Group, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, and Stellantis NV—GM is assembling a charging network for North America. As more and more car consumers are looking towards electric vehicles (EVs), General Motors and all its collaborators are dedicated to ensuring that their customers can comfortably purchase, own, and provide for their EVs. Or, to put it another way, GM and its fellow automakers want to provide for their current and prospective customers as best they can. To that end, all seven car companies are teaming up to create the most convenient, practical, and accessible EV charging network in the history of the continent.

How to Make EV Charging More Accessible

Now, as for how to make EV charging more accessible, the short answer is: more charging stations. Of course, it isn’t quite as simple as one would think. Rather, an endeavor of this magnitude takes time. More specifically, the very first charging stations from this project will be installed in the summer of 2024. However, it is important to note the colossal quantity of these state-of-the-art systems. Over the course of the next few years, GM and its partners plan to set up more than 30,000 high-powered charge points all across the continent.

Furthermore, the top priority of this project is to create the best customer experience possible. For that reason, these stations will support all types of EVs by offering Combined Charging System (CCS) and North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors. Equally importantly, they will be in several different settings, including urban and highway surroundings, as the automakers want the public to have optimal access to charge points during every part of their everyday lives. Finally, the stations in question will have various amenities, extensive digital integration, remarkable reliability, and, of course, next-generation charging capability.
