GM is Investing $500 Million in its Arlington Assembly Plant

To that end, the iconic company is making history once again. Namely, GM is investing $500 million in its Arlington Assembly plant in Texas. Which Models are Made at the GM Arlington Assembly Plant?

Earlier this year, GM announced its plans to invest $500 million in its Arlington Assembly plant. With this investment, the company will manufacture the next generation of full-size gasoline-powered SUVs. Furthermore, this will help to fund the transition from gas models to electric vehicles (EVs), which GM is aiming to complete by 2035. So, with all of that in mind, which specific cars will be funding the future of the brand? In other words, which models are made at the GM Arlington Assembly plant?

While we can probably expect some brand-new vehicles in the upcoming production years, at this time, GM is not releasing any details about future full-size SUVs. With that in mind, we can confirm that the Arlington Assembly plant produces the following familiar vehicles: the Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, and Escalade-V, Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL. In short, between now and 2035, one can expect to see many, many more of these models everywhere.

How This Impacts the Local Community

On this, Gerald Johnson—executive vice president of GM’s Global Manufacturing and Sustainability—had this to say, “Preparing the plant to produce future (internal combustion engine) full-size SUVs reflects our commitment to our valued customers and the efforts of the dedicated Arlington Assembly employees, who have been breaking production records this year. This investment bolsters GM’s U.S. manufacturing operations, which includes more than 50 assembly, stamping, propulsion and component plants and parts distribution centers nationwide.”

As for how this impacts the local community, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott noted that Arlington Assembly is an integral part of the economy in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He went on to say, “General Motors’ over half-a-billion-dollar investment in their North Texas assembly plant will strengthen Texas’ position as a global manufacturing leader and continue creating good-paying jobs for generations of Texans.” Suffice it to say, this is excellent news for GM, all of its dealerships, and our beloved home state of Texas.
